TIMESTAMPS

  • 0:00 – Intro! Which is the snazzy music from Act 2, Stage 1, and other points of the game. Ninja Gaiden has some pretty, pretty, pretty sweet tunes.
  • 57:30 – Emails! We hear from the newly unemployed Barack O., and recommend some good, breezy summer games.
  • 1:13:00 – As always, we REALLY help someone out in… Ask the Sweet Boys.

  • 1:19:15 – Stinger. Sometimes, Steve can’t talk well.

SHOW NOTES

– Ninja Gaiden has held up in value well, according to Price Charting. The first two NES games are affordable, in the $10 to $12 range, but the third one is rare and starts at $49.98. If you want the box and manual, the price increases to $42, $51 and $161. Yikes!

– IGN did a history of the series and Ryu, which you can read here.

TIMESTAMPS

  • 0:00 – Intro, which features the awesome YouTube collection that Huell refers to on the show.
  • 1:02:30 – Emails! What IS Q-Bert anyway?
  • 1:17:00 – Snifferoo. Maybe we’ll actually play a certain game next week…

SHOW NOTES

– The first three Warcraft games are often available in a “battle chest” edition for modern systems that runs from $10 to $20 new. It can be dicey to buy used copies though, given that Blizzard can be sticklers for authentication codes.

– On the show, we talk briefly about Titan, an ambitious MMORPG that was cancelled by Blizzard despite years of work because it didn’t meet their high-quality standards. Kotaku has an impressive story on the issues of the game here, which sounds ambitious for now, nevermind a few years ago.

– A past episode was about StarCraft! If you missed us talking about that Blizzard game, go here!

– Q*bert is awesome! Here he is.

– You can watch the South Park episode “Make Love Not Warcraft” on the show’s website for free.

Episode 021 – Black Tiger (1987)

This week in Your Parents Basement, we are skulking about neon-lighted dungeons and whipping with our flail past zombies and Venus fly traps! From 1987, we’re playing Black Tiger, an arcade classic for special guest Paul, a.k.a. Pascal’s Pager. NOTE: This week’s episode contains some especially blue language, especially toward the end! You’ve been warned.

TIMESTAMPS

  • 0:00 – Intro, which consists of the triumphant ending music from the game.
  • 58:00 – Emails. We hear from an old friend, and talk about our favorite Mario accessories.
  • 1:20:45 – Snifferoo.

SHOW NOTES

– The main image comes from an old sales flyer for the game, from this site.

– Unfortunately, there are no arcade cabinets for Black Tiger on eBay currently. Another game that Paul mentioned, Rastan, is going for $300 and it doesn’t even work. As mentioned on the show though, it is available in the Capcom Classics Collection for the Xbox and Playstation 2. According to Price Charting, it goes for around $25 used, $40 new. If you’re fine with not having a physical copy, it is included in the Capcom Arcade Cabinet, which is downloadable for most systems.

– On the show, Steve mentioned the ridiculous outfit of the female lead in Tales of Hearts R. You can see it here. There are also alternate costumes like a swimsuit and schoolgirl outfit, if that’s not weird enough for you.
